Can you guess what Cappadocia, Turkey's most popular activity is? Well, if you haven't guessed already, it's hot air ballooning during sunrise and yes, it's just as epic as it sounds and looks on social media. Cappadocia is famous for its hot air balloon which makes it the #1 place to go in the world. As your flight takes off, you will see hundreds of other balloons in a panoramic view of the cotton candy skies drifting over the rock formations, also called fairy chimneys. I can’t even describe how incredible the feeling is of hot air ballooning in the Cappadocia valleys.
During my time in Cappadocia, I booked a hot air balloon adventure with one of the most established and reputable operators called Voyager Balloons. There are about 20 different companies to choose from, so make sure you are picking a reputable one. I absolutely loved flying with this company for various reasons. Voyager is unique compared to others because they have created balloon baskets to make your flight comfortable and enjoyable. Each basket holds 4-5 people and there is a fair amount of space to capture great photos and not feel cramped. I noticed during other flights, that some of the other companies had people jam packed in the basket. Voyager makes sure all their customers get the full, positive experience. Their pilots have 20+ years of training and will fly you to unique spots throughout the valleys giving both far away and close up views. Their flights are guaranteed to be a minimum of one hour while most companies fly only 45 minutes.
I could not be happier with my decision to fly with Voyager. They made my experience truly one to remember and I still don’t feel like it’s real that I finally got to do this bucket list activity that has been on my mind for over a year now! Interested in flying with Voyager? You can book for a fare price here. The prices include a welcome breakfast and round-trip transportation to and from your accommodation.
During the summer months of June, July and August, winds are not as strong and the weather is clear. Not going during these times could risk bad weather/windy conditions and trips to potentially be cancelled or delayed. Always make sure to book ahead of time, as this activity does sell out on a daily basis. I suggest planning your hot air balloon excursion for the first morning you are staying in Cappadocia because if winds are too strong and it would get cancelled, you can get a new flight for the next day. Its rare for cancellation during the summer months, although it’s always good to plan ahead to be safe rather than sorry!
Get ready to go to bed early because you will be picked up between 3:30 and 4:00 am.
After pickup, you will be taken to the Voyager headquarters where they serve a traditional Turkish breakfast buffet.
After breakfast, you hop back into the shuttle and are driven to the launch field.
Admire all of the balloons being inflated up with fire at dawn as you anticipate your journey.
The workers will load everyone into the balloons, and then it's time for takeoff.
The best day of your life is upon you as you soar up into the sky as the sun rises.
After the flight is over, you will be gifted a flight certificate with a glass of champagne.
I can’t even put into words how incredible this experience truly was. Hopefully my photos have convinced you to head to Cappadocia to go on a hot air balloon ride with Voyager and enjoy this once and a lifetime trip.
