Favorite Guesthouse in all of Southeast Asia (You Need to Stay Here!)

One of the most expensive parts about traveling is the accommodation you are staying in. I love being able to create blog posts for users that are interested in wanting to travel in a high-class setting but are also "ballin’ on a budget!"

Not only that, it’s important to feel connected to the place you are traveling to, and that's why I love staying in guest houses. Guesthouses have a special charm to them that stands out from your typical hotel. Guesthouses help you connect with the culture of the country you’re staying in as well as become close with other people staying on the property and even the owners if you’re lucky. Today, I am excited to share with you my favorite guesthouse I have ever stayed in, so keep reading to find out where and how you can book this amazing guesthouse that will offer more to you than just a place to sleep. 

Located on the Island of Langkawi, Malaysia is a guesthouse called Sunset Valley Holiday Houses. Upon my arrival, the wonderful owners, David and Gudrun greeted me with open arms and made me feel so incredibly welcomed. It warmed my heart. 

How to get to the Island of Langkawi

The easiest way to get to the island is to fly from the capital of Kuala Lumpur. You can actually find super affordable flights here for around $25 USD if you’re flexible with your travel dates. Book the cheapest flights by using 12goasia. Once you land, you can call a taxi using the Grab app and it only costs about $4 USD. 

David and Gudrun, the owners of Sunset Valley Holiday Houses live on the property and have built 6 beautiful, affordable, eco-friendly villas surrounded by palm trees and rice patty fields for guests to enjoy and fully take in the relaxing qualities of the island. Each home is equipt with a full kitchen, and bathroom and decorated with an authentic Malaysian charm that makes you feel at peace. I loved the rustic “cabin-like” build of the houses, but with an added twist of modern decor and features. I mean look at those kitchen views! 

The 6 homes offer everything you need to have a comfortable stay on the island. The 6 different homes range from 2-person bungalows to 3-bedroom villas (accompanying up to 6 people), making Sunset Valley a perfect fit for a trip with a group of friends or a couples getaway. 

The location of Sunset Valley is perfect. You feel as if you’re the only one on the island, but you’re still close in proximity to grocery stores, beaches, waterfalls, and other activities. Additionally, the pool area is equipt with a bbq, sitting area, and Bluetooth sound system, so you can enjoy a fun day with your best pals just by having a chill travel day and staying on the property. Additionally, they offer motorbike & car rentals and will happily help you arrange any day trips you wish to take while spending your time in Langkawi. During your time here on the island, I suggest you check out Tanjung Rhu and Pantai Kok beach, Temurun Waterfall, and doing a mangroves kayaking tour.
